INTRODUCTION

A world in perpetual confrontation, a thousand-year-old struggle; on one side the wild nature that tries to regain its rights, on the other the civilization obsessed by transhumanism. Here the Yôkai are present everywhere since the dawn of time and live in us through tales and legends. A company has succeeded in capturing these spirits and integrating them into the bodies of Androids, it is called transpectrism. They are used as guinea pigs for transhumanism trials. These ghost-androids are the slaves of the unbridled transhumanism of humanity. They are called the YôkA.I.

Here we follow the story of Inari who is a YôkA.I. slave and who has lost her memory as a result of her transpectrism.

1 - Ghost in the Machine

Since the new millennium, humans have only one thing to say: transhumanism, surviving everything, even death. Reduced to the state of guinea pigs, the once admired YôkA.I. are now nothing more than laboratory rats, test tubes. A handful of elites have taken control of the world and will stop at nothing to subdue the scientists. These elites are dominant males governed by their immeasurable ego and unable to control themselves.

In this world of stone, it is the force which took over. The law of the talion in a warlike society. And when the imbecilic kingpins hold the reins, nature no longer matters, children no longer matter. The death of a million civilians is just a statistic. And the YôkA.I., real technological jewels, are only used as slaves for scientific experiments.

3 - YôkA.I. Attack

However, it rings in the air, like a little music, a poem from the past that the YôkA.I. pass on from generation to generation. And the time of rebellion has come.

I'll strike you without rage or hate
The way a butcher strikes his block,
The way that Moses smote the rock!
So that your eyes may irrigate

To those who only understand force, the YôkA.I. have a ready-made answer to escape: panic. To do this, they need to develop a plan. They decide to awaken their power of transformation in order to frighten the humans with fears and superstitions.
Thus, they attempt a first assault on the city by transforming their android bodies into ghosts and by entering each house to frighten the inhabitants. The atmosphere of the city becomes sinister and the YôkA.I. play their game so well that one would swear that the alleys are nothing but mourning and funeral melancholy. It seems impossible to get the inhabitants out of their despondency and vegetative torpor.

4 - Forgotten City

Inari, a YôkA.I. who participates in the rebellion, is still unable to control her powers and perform the spectral metamorphosis. An incident occurred during her transpectrism with the scientists and all her old Yôkai memory has disappeared. She doesn't know where she came from or which legendary Yôkai she was born from. Only one cause matters to her, to find the elites responsible for her amnesia and recover her memory.

Overwhelmed with grief at her impotence in battle, Inari decides to retreat alone and flee to an ancient abandoned city. This place near the sea is lost in the middle of the wilderness. Swept by the coastal winds, the dried corals tint the beaches with purple colors. Giant seashells covered with spines, once a habitat, complete this unusual decor. The beauty of nature taking its rights.

The solitude was an exhilarating and reassuring feeling but she also felt that this place sucked her in a spiral of depression and wandering. She felt as if she was stranded on the shore and, with the wind blowing through her white and red hair, she wandered alone on the beach, looking taciturn and tortured.

5 - Hidden Spirit

One evening, in this forgotten city, while contemplating the sky filled with stars each more beautiful than the other, she heard a whisper reported by the swell:

恋しくば Koishiku ba
尋ね来て見よ tazunekite miyo
和泉なる izumi naru
信太の森の shinoda no mori no
うらみ葛の葉 urami kuzunoha


If you love me, darling, come and see me.
You will find me yonder in the great wood
Of Shinoda of Izumi Province where the leaves
Of arrow roots always rustle in pensive mood.

This poem seemed so familiar to her that she felt reborn a second time. Sensations of a previous life mixed with mysterious memories of an elusive existence. She first felt the smell of her birth and then like shock waves, the memories multiplied into electronic impulses. The sensation of the moss under her feet, the emanation of the first drop of rain, the feeling of the morning dew on her fur.

At that moment, the sky became clear and limpid, liberating. And the amnesia she had been a victim of shifted under her feet. Inari knew at last that she was not ordinary and that in her blood flowed a divine being whose existence she did not know.

She understood that she was the reincarnation of the fox goddess and that she possessed the spirit of the Kitsune, a mythical animal that confers powers of phytokinesis and sorcery.

6 - Atelier Mandracore

For as long as she could remember as a mysterious android, Inari had always had this ability to communicate with the plant world. It seemed to her that trees and plants were comforting friends and that they were the only beings she could really rely on.

Although she had always communicated with them, she had never been able to set the plant kingdom in motion or make plants grow to her liking. Galvanized by a sudden confidence in herself, she decided to start her training alone in front of the rough sea.

After a month, one morning, just as she was beginning to lose hope, she felt an unknown warmth in the pit of her stomach. At that very moment, thousands of seaweeds growing at the bottom of the reef began to emerge from the water and swirl in the sky like a flock of birds.

After several months, the plant world obeyed her completely.

7 - Weeping WilloW

Inari could feel that her new abilities had completely changed her. She was beginning to act differently, to think differently. Was it possible that the cybernetics of her body could merge with her new phytokinetic powers?

She was on the border between the dead and the living, between the vegetable and the animal. Her spirit seemed to be detached from her body, causing her to experience impressions of derealization. The negative hallucinations followed one another and the anxiety attacks became stronger and stronger.

It is then that she understood that she was metamorphosing.

She was changing both physically and psychologically through a succession of defense mechanisms and it was necessary to fight against the madness that was taking hold of her, to be able to use this insanity to turn it into a strength and sublimate it.

And when her last forces abandoned her, she found in the depths of her soul the will and the courage not to disappear into nothingness. And so the fusion between the plant world and the digital world took place.

Inari became the WilloW, a new bionic being, half plant, half android.

It was now time to face his demons and to come back to fight alongside his family for the great war of the YôkA.I.
